Bridger works with midstream companies, scanning everything from transmission lines to compressor stations and more. Under the new Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) rule taking effect in 2022, natural gas transmission lines will be more tightly regulated. This means monitoring transmission pipelines for emissions that can cause safety and/or environmental concerns will be required.
Bridger Photonics helps companies that provide the transportation of natural gas with methane leak detection using Gas Mapping LiDAR™. With our help, finding and identifying leaks in your transmission lines becomes simpler and more efficient. This ensures that you will remain compliant with the new PHMSA regulations and even meet the requirements for Certified Gas.

How Gas Mapping LiDAR Works
Gas Mapping LiDAR is an aerial methane detection technology that utilizes lasers to detect the presence of methane gas that may be leaking from pipelines and would otherwise go undetected. The sensor is attached to an aircraft that flies over natural gas infrastructure and scans for methane. Information on leak location and rate is recorded, and high-resolution aerial photography and GPS coordinates are also taken during the flyover.
Once the scan is completed, our experienced data technicians analyze the results and prepare a detailed report. This process generates geo-registered gas plume imagery, which, when combined with advanced analytics, creates maps of precise methane leak locations and emissions rates. The efficiency of aerial scanning and actionable data is ideal for gas pipeline monitoring since crews can be sent to distinct pipeline locations to repair leaks.
Why Choose Bridger?
Gas Mapping LiDAR can help operators face their Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) challenges. The streamlined scanning of assets and actionable data helps transmission companies more efficiently and effectively reduce their emissions. This is crucial not only for meeting regulatory requirements but also for companies’ own safety and environmental goals.
